The Summer 2025 issue of R3’s RECOVERY Magazine includes a special focus on outsourcing in the insolvency profession. Eileen Maclean‘s article within the feature discusses what outsourcing in insolvency looks like now, what the benefits and the associated risks are, and what further change we might see in this area.
She concludes that with Artificial Intelligence (AI) forcing change in how the profession delivers services, and in ways we have not yet imagined, the pressure to demonstrate value at competitive cost will continue.

We were delighted to be invited by our client BDO LLP to be sponsored by them to participate in the UN Global Compact Sustainable Suppliers Training Programme this year.
BDO is one of eight leading organisations from a diverse range of sectors taking part in this year’s programme, with each firm involving a number of their suppliers across the world. We are hugely grateful to BDO for offering us this opportunity to learn practical steps to improve our business’s sustainability.
A comprehensive modular programme which is being run by UN Global Compact Network UK, the Sustainable Suppliers Training Programme has been developed to train suppliers in corporate sustainability, help them improve their sustainable business practices, and assist them to prepare for requirements set by regulatory sustainability frameworks.
The programme covers various aspects of sustainability, including integrating Sustainable Development Goals within the business, reducing its carbon footprint, working towards a gender equity plan, creating a supply code of conduct, and reporting on sustainability metrics.
Insolvency Support Services’ Kim Guthrie is representing the firm on the programme, which is being offered in the UK for the first time this year. On completion of the course, we hope to provide an update on key learning points for us, which may be useful for you and our other clients and contacts too.

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March this year, the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association (IPA) shone a spotlight on inspirational women from across the sector. As the IPA said, the women of the insolvency profession continue to be a strong influence on the sector through outstanding work, driving change and inspiring others.
We were delighted that the IPA asked our director Eileen Maclean to be one of the women highlighted in their IWD campaign this year.
Eileen commented: “When I started out in the late 1980s, women wore skirts (never trousers), occupied the junior roles, and were subject to routine sexism and misogyny. Progression through the ranks was difficult. Self-employment was my answer, and I now run a successful business comprised entirely of smart, funny, hardworking women, who juggle work and family commitments every day and whose talents our clients value highly.
Part of me thinks International Women’s Day is unnecessary – every day should be Women’s Day – but on reflection it’s an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come, how business has adapted for women in the workforce and how we’ve changed workplaces to suit our needs and ambitions.
While the landscape is completely different for women starting out in insolvency today, there’s still much to be done to achieve full equality for women and a world free from bias and discrimination. Happy International Women’s Day to all the women in insolvency!”

Insolvency Support Services’ director Eileen Maclean is delighted to be chairing the Insolvency Practitioners Association’s (IPA) Personal Insolvency Conference 2024 in Manchester on 28 November.

We will hear from speakers from across the insolvency world, including IP firms, government, financial services, debt advice, law enforcement, the legal sector and the IPA.
It is a must-attend event for personal insolvency practitioners as well as those in the debt advice and legal sectors, creditor sector and service providers. It also provides a welcome opportunity to network with peers from across the sector.
A member of the IPA Board, Eileen chairs its Standards, Ethics & Regulatory Liaison Committee (SERL) and is a corresponding member of the Joint Insolvency Committee, responsible for standard setting across the UK’s insolvency profession. She also sits on the IPA’s Anti Money Laundering Committee.
